The city of Meppel, on the border of Drenthe and Overijssel, has much to offer.
The Town has a friendly character with its old façades, small streets and beautiful squares. It is even still possible to moor a boat in the canal in the center of Meppel. In summer, Meppel is the starting point of the “Drentse Fietsvierdaagse”.
A major attraction is the “Thursday-Meppel Days”. This event is annually visited by thousands of visitors. But the modern theater, the Printing Museum, marinas and the many activities, such as “Grachtenfestival” and Pirate Shanty-Choir Festival show Meppel to be a bustling city.
In the vicinity of Meppel you’ll find nature park “De Wieden”, National Park “Weerribben” and historic cities such as Blokzijl, Vollenhove, Steenwijk and Hanseatic City of Hasselt. The three church villages Staphorst, Rouveen and IJhorst are worth a visit as well as is De Wijk with former convent Dickninge.
For outdoor enthusiasts Meppel is the center of several ANWB cycling and walking routes. There are several golf courses near Meppel and in “Boswachterij Staphorst” you’ll find beautiful walking routes and a recreational pond.
